What is the Commercial VPN ?

To Understand what is commercial VPN start with

What is a VPN?
VPN(Virtual Private Network) allows you to establish a connection to another network secuerly over the internet.VPN forward all personal traffic through their network which is where the benefit all come from.
VPN technology is originally developed to allow remote business workers to securely connect to a corporate network in order to access resources gone from the office. Although VPNs are still used in this way, the term now usually refers to commercial VPN
  • Give employees secure access to a corporate internet while locating outside the office
  • Circumvent geographical restrictions or protect privacy

What is a Tunnel in VPN?

In the simplest terms, a VPN tunnel is an encrypted link between your device and another network. Because tunneling involves repackaging the traffic data into a different form, it can hide and secure the contents of the traffic passing through that tunnel. This process allows private network traffic to be sent across a public network (such as the Internet), using a process called encapsulation. A tunneling protocol works by using the data portion of a packet (the payload) to carry the packets that actually provide the service.

Commerical VPN

There are two categories of commercial VPN: remote-access VPNs and site-to-site VPNs.

Remote Access VPNs

A remote-access VPN creates a connection between individual users and a remote network — typically the business’s internal network. Remote access VPNs use two key components:

  • Network Access Server (NAS): a dedicated server, or a software application on a shared server, which is connected to the business’s internal network
  • VPN client: software installed on a user’s computer or mobile device

When the user wishes to access the business’s network, they activate their VPN client, which establishes an encrypted ‘tunnel’ to the NAS. This encrypted tunnel allows the user to access the internal network without their traffic being exposed — a significant security advantage for remote workers.

Site-to-site VPNs

Site-to-site VPNs create a single virtual network that is shared across multiple office locations, each of which can have multiple individual users. In this model, the VPN client is hosted on each office's local network, rather than on individual users’ devices. In this way, users in each office location are able to access the shared network without using a VPN client individually. But if they leave the office, they lose this access.
